Hi, there. I’m Katie McArthy, Southern California born and bred, so we know there is a skewed POV* embedded deep in my DNA.
Or as some arrogant-but-possibly-prescient Californians like to say, that skewed POV** is the real reality.
I live in and love Los Angeles. There. I said it, and I meant it. Except for a time ago when I had to escape and lick wounds after my third screenplay in a row fell through, this one on the eve of production. Literally the Friday before shooting was to begin on Monday. I like to think it had something to do with closing of investor tax loopholes and not my script.***
So after a couple years in northern New Mexico, wonderful and magical country, I couldn’t wait to get back to L.A. But I thank the electromagnetic field in Taos for one big epiphany: I would write books instead of screenplays, because there would be so much less heartbreak. I actually thought that.
So here I am. Writing. Not screenplays. And feeling pretty happy about it, although there has been some heartbreak.
* A screenplay or teleplay direction, meaning Point Of View.
** I promise not to use any more show-off-y screenwriter terms.
*** What else could I think?
